DNA Central Dogma Form II - DNA Replication

When you click Submit (at the bottom of this web page) it will save your work on the server for me.

DO NOT Click submit more than once!

TAB OR USE THE MOUSE Between the fields....

The "form handler" software doesn't like "blanks" so, if you don't have an answer, leave the - in the box.

While you are encouraged to work in small (2-3) groups, each of you must submit a separate form. You are each responsible for your own answers.

You will want to keep this window open while you work on the DNAi site.

http://www.dnai.org/a/index.html

Click on "Copying the Code".

After you read the section on "Problem" you can skip "Players" but go through "Pieces of the Puzzle" and "Putting it together"

Watch carefully the two videos on transcription and replication. Go through the Interactive section.

Answer the questions as best you can. The boxes will expand as you type if you need more space. (Don't worry if it is a one word answer. The box size is standard.)

Question 1:  What are the three possible models for DNA replication?

Question 2: Describe Meselson and Stahl's experiment?

Question 3: Why, in Meselson and Stahls experimental results does the band with "pure N-15" disappear? What would you expect if you left the bacteria to divide a third time?

Question 4. What is the key difference between RNA and DNA?

Question 5. Does replicating DNA work the same way on both strands? If not (and obviously not, or I wouldn't ask the question) what is the difference? Do you see a connection to the "orientation" of the sugar molecules in the DNA structure?

Question 6. What is the sequence of RNA you have made in the simulator?
